Program Timeline

All applicants must take the ALES and Foreign Language (YDS/YÖKDİL) exams with minimum required grades during Phase I or Phase II of medical school. 


MSTP Year 1– Medical School Phase III- PhD PreCore Year 1
- Medical school program
- Students select PhD courses from available programs, besides their medical school training

MSTP Year 2- Medical School Phase IV - PhD PreCore Year 2
- Medical school program
- Students select PhD courses from available programs, besides their medical school training 
- Application for the core PhD program

MSTP Year III- Medical School Phase V- PhD Core Year 1 (Semesters 1-2) 
- Medical school program
- Students select PhD courses required by their core program

According to the MSTP regulations, after Phase V, medical students must take a mandatory 2-year break from medical school program to devote full time to their original research for dissertation. 

MSTP Year 4-5 – Medical school 2-year break  - PhD Core Year 2-3 (Semesters 3-4-5-6)
- Students select PhD courses as required by their core program 
1. PhD proficiency exam (upon completion of minimum credits)
2. Dissertation committee is assigned, thesis proposal is submitted
3. Dissertation work

MSTP Year 6- Medical school Phase VI - PhD Core Year 4 (Semesters 7-8)
- Internship program of medical school
- Dissertation work and required publications are completed.
- Graduation from medical school: MD degree is awarded.
- Oral defense of the dissertation: PhD degree is awarded.

Students are eligible to take summer-term courses. Graduate School of Health Sciences coordinates opening of summer courses upon request from specific departments, with involvement of the MSTP Executive Board.
